November 15 - January 15
Complete the Full Application by February 15
Grant Process | Each fall our youth boards identify areas of focus that they feel best represent the needs of the at-risk youth in their community. They solicit grant applications and in the spring of each year they allocate funds to programs they feel best address these needs.
Eligibility | All applicants must have a tax-exempt 501 (C) (3) classification from the Internal Revenue Service and be able to provide their letter of determination from the IRS. We are currently only accepting applications for the South Sound Youth Board serving the Tacoma/Gig Harbor Washington area.
Funding Priority is given to organizations and/or projects that:
The Foundation does not make grants to the following:
Online Inquiry Process | Organizations interested in being considered for grant funding should first complete an Online Inquiry. The online inquiry period begins on November 15th and closes on January 15th of each year. Organizations are encouraged to submit their inquiries early in the cycle.
Once an inquiry is received, it's reviewed by the community youth board to determine if the organizations' mission and/or a specific project fall within the foundations' & community youth board's guidelines. Organizations that do not fit these specifications shall be immediately declined.
Organizations falling within the appropriate community and foundation guidelines will receive a formal invitation to submit a full proposal on or before February 15th.
Grant Proposal Process | Only organizations formally invited to submit a full proposal shall be considered for funding. If you are invited to submit a full proposal it is due no later than March 1st. All proposals are submitted on-line via e-mail. Since the foundation receives more proposals than it can fund, organizations should not interpret such an invitation as an indication of predictable support.
Meetings with Foundation Staff | The Foundations' community youth boards welcome the opportunity to meet with potential grantees. To make most efficient use of everyone's time, we request that these meetings occur only after we receive an online inquiry.
Site Visits | If your organization is invited to apply for a grant we will seek to arrange a site visit for our local youth board members to see your work firsthand. Scheduling can oftentimes prove challenging, so we appreciate your patience as we work to coordinate these activities.
Funding Decisions | The Foundation's community youth boards will begin reviewing grant proposals as they are received, and their recommendations will be finalized during the month of May.
Applicant organizations will be informed of the youth board's decision by June 15th. Prior to that date, however, we ask for your patience during the board's due diligence process.
Grant Awards | When a grant is awarded, the receiving organization will be asked to complete a Grant Agreement which will establish reporting standards and other requirements necessary to fulfill their grantee obligation. Included in this agreement is a commitment to complete a Progress Report after 12 months.
The one-year grant review process is an important component of our youth board education process, and organizations receiving grant funding will be ineligible to reapply for future grants during this period. Upon successful completion of the 12-Month Annual Review, organizations will again be eligible to reapply for grant funding.
